Those tank transporter trailers look like they would make nice truck transporters too.

Kevin,

Wait a couple of years and you'll be able to buy one - my super sekret sources reveal that this type of trailer has been mothballed and is no longer in use, because of incessant complaints by personnel... So they went back to the classic IDF flat lowboy.

Now, all this talk of oddball White COEs and tank transportes jogged my geriatric memory: if you can stomach the Volvo cab and engines (520 (FH12) or 610 hp (FH16)) this is in fact the White RC's stepchild. What you are looking at is the current IDF tank transporter (they also use Mercedes Benz Actroses) and it's US made. I may be wrong but I think the frame is basically a development of the White frame, with a driven front axle added (6X6).

(pic source as in my previous post below)

Cheers,

T

How much you want for that road Commode?I tried to buy one I think on here a while back but was sold.I really want an old Bowman truck.I live 2 blocks from it's home and remember those stained black trailers.EVERY trailer had a plume passenger side corner roof down 3 feet and tapering off over half the trailer.

Oh yes, these bring back memories - our neighbor had one when they first came out and in comparison with other COEs we had in Israel back then they looked so much more gamorous (well at least to this - no longer - teenager).

Here's one in typical byblical surroundings (both below pics from http://www.facebook.com/photo_search.php?oid=55049997117&view=all):

and at the port of Eilat on the Red Sea (shows how much more massive the cab is in comparison with the RCII):

The IDF had them to supplement its R600s and I think some are still in service. The below shows one during tests. Yes it is towing the standard IDF tank transporter of the 1980s (an Austrian ÖAF) with a Mk I Merkava tank - 90T GCW:crazy:

Dan,

The KC White branch had a big todo and invited everyone to come look at these when they were brand new

I  was in the market for a truck at the time but I ordered an Autocar instead. I like the looks of these a lot. The bonus was interior parts were very reasonable in you needed them, the cabs were quite and rattle free. I think the 90's versions look even better. I'd like to find one now to put away and bring back out once its 25 years old.

These photos are courtesy of the Utah tax roles. LOL
