The rims are safe, and likely those rings haven't been beat up.

Find a good tire place who know how to work on them.

You might hear the fearful stories, that happens if people hammer recklessly or don't pay attention.

Or just repeat what they heard, but they are safe with proper techniques.

No need to gild the lily, for some people an untouched original is quite rare and more interesting to see how well it was taken care of. If it gets new upholstery and paint it could have been any truck old that needed a lot of work.

That said, if you want to paint the bumper, you could say, "it's all original except I painted the bumper" which is still good bragging rights.

The tires for tube type, lock ring rims are still available. The rims are safe, and likely those rings haven't been beat up. Find a good tire place who know how to work on them. You might hear the fearful stories, that happens if people hammer recklessly or don't pay attention, or just repeat what they heard, but they are safe with proper techniques.

The tires themselves might be ok if you are occasionally using the truck.

Great find, enjoy!

It is your truck and your choice but I would vote to keep it original. Replace the rims if you have problems finding some one to work on them.Nice looking old truck.

So I just got this truck... mint. Not sure whether or not to start improving it... mainly these split ring wheels.
It could use new tires... has 370 4V engine. Truck is like new. Was used (same owner 42 years) 3 weeks a year
as a grain truck, then sat in the barn the rest of the year. It has a dump, can handle 19,000 lbs in the bed.
What should I do with it... I hate to cut apart such a cool antique.
