1978 was the first year of the "Freightliner" not the White Frtlnr".. Try contacting Michael Gully thru here or contact info in WOT.. He is the Freightliner Guru!!

I'm not too sure of where online you can find any info on the truck by looking up the vin. I know most dealers can only go back about 30 years to look up vin numbers. I have some mid 60s and mid 80s Ford semi's I'm working on and ran into the same trouble. What I was able to do, which worked in my favor for more than one reason, was find the original factory shop manuals for my specific trucks. These will break down your vin number as to what model, front end, rears, trans and engine you have. It will also tell the original paint, interior trim and wheelbase. They will help in the restoration process as far as showing all parts on the truck as well as tear down and rebuild. I was able to find these manuals through diyrepairmanuals.com and faxonautoliterature.com. They also sell the parts list books, electrical system schematics. As far as parts go, I can't really help you to much there. You might have to refab some, take whats good ie chrome and have it rechromed or other parts reconditioned. If you have a big truck graveyard near you, you might be able to find some parts at a place like that. I'm not sure where you're located, but there is a place in South Sioux City, Nebraska that sell older truck parts. They have all kinds of older trucks. They're called C and H truck parts. Website for them is candhtruck.com.

Hope this helps you some. Keep restoring that old iron. I love to see those old trucks back on the road.

Jeff

P.S. You might also get on ebay and see if you can find a original truck sales brochure for that particular truck and year, 1978. That will also have pictures in it that will help identify some things on your truck. Also it will tell you all the options that were available for that truck. Even if you don't find a 1978 sales brochure if you can find a 77 or 79, that will help too. A lot of times they didn't make any big changes except for engine options.

Hi I have a 1978 Freightliner cabover and I am trying to look the vin up to find info about this truck. My question is where can I do that all the sites I try tells me it isn't long enough. Also does anyone know where I can find parts for this truck I am trying to restore it to new look.
