Tj picked up this R700 V8 Mack im not sure if he hit his head before he bought it or after he realized what he had done although it is a decent truck it would be a lot better if it were a 1674 CAT

Tom--------TJ might be disapointed in that engine, but if it goes south,a 2 stroke joke will fit !

Ah hah!  Twin sticks!  Somebody's gonna' have to actually DRIVE that ol' Mack.  Duplex? Triplex?

Enquiring minds want to know. ;)

It has a triple X tranny inverted camel back im not sure a kid that age should be playing with something like that. It now has a straight pipe, if Tj cant figure it out we could get Tomer to drive it.

So is that what an E9 looks like?  I haven't seen any Mack V8's in person.

But it does sound nice (between overhauls):)

Nice find - it's an early one also...

Cheers,

Lots of power, but weak o-rings on the sleeves. I see it has the "butt buster" seat as well.

What horsepower is that engine?
By TonyClemens - Tuesday, August 31, 2010 9:51 AM
That looks like the 325 Maxidyne V8 that was in the '73 F700 that Dad had to drive for a year. Couple that engine with the 5 speed trans and you've got the definition of frustration.

255

I am sure you know but thought it was a 245 but anyway it was a big horse in its time. But it needed a 15 speed trans to get anywere . The next one was the ENDT 864 with twin turbos. I rememnber the first one sold here in Tulsa.May have been in 67.Cant remenber if the pump had been changed but the one like in the photo had a PSJ or PSM and was known to go as many as 60,000 miles with out replacing the fuel pump.Talking about weak liner packing i think you can say cummins was same way because rubber was not so good when the coolant was not proteced like it is now with filters. Back then alot of people drained the antifreeze untill winter not knowing how to take care of coolant. That engine there would make a real noise with twin riker muflers on some tall 4" stacks.Almost crack glass. In this engines day you did not want to set the fuel up or it would burn pistons fast.

You can still see where the old V-8 Emblem was at.  A Mack V-8 got the emblem.  A Detroit V-8 didn't get one.
