Made a quick trip to New Mexico and picked up a long-nose 9500 that my little brother bought. One of those great eBay finds. Just what we need, another project.
By newfie-trucker - Sunday, January 16, 2011 4:39 PM
is that a single axle? looks to be in good shape ... what are the specs on the truck?? what year is it??
By Doug Blevins - Sunday, January 16, 2011 5:05 PM
Tom, where at in NM? I have a buddy that used to have a long nose GMC 9500, but it had a "shiny 290" cummins & 13 speed. It was white, daycab long wheelbase. At the time I thought it was ugly, and was happy when he traded it in on a 78 Freightliner Cabover like Oakies. Now I would love to have the old Jimmy (or the cabover, it got wrecked)!......Doug

I would think that finding one of the GM bumpers in as good as shape as that looks, has to be worth whatever he paid ofr the truck.
By Trenton - Sunday, January 16, 2011 5:17 PM
My uncle had a tandem simialr to that one, but I dont recall it having external air cleaners like that. Looks to be in great shape.

I was wondering if you had went after it yet.
By wayne graham - Monday, January 17, 2011 5:36 AM
Trenton, the air cleaners and the bunk appear to be off a w900A Kenworth. Any time you add Paccar parts you give it class. Wayne

And if you add http://forums.aths.org/InstantForum2010/Uploads/Images/01469a42-4d39-49fb-954b-3a1d.jpg parts,it will last longer....
By junkmandan - Monday, January 17, 2011 5:46 AM
GMC did make single drive axle versions of the M series in early production ,but I've only seen one in Ontario,Canada about 15 years ago. The outside aircleaner doesn't do it any favors ,but TJ will soon have straight pipes on it ,if it's not there already ! Tom ,your fleet must be as big as Mike Harbison's by now !

Second look, looks like it has Reyco 4 spring suspension with the rear axle removed .

And if it's a GMC it looks great.

Great looking truck
By Ruppster - Monday, January 17, 2011 6:14 AM
Hanging around Bob's place must be getting to me or something as even this Dodge nut thinks that is one sweet looking truck. :)  Looks like your brother found a cool truck to play with. Congrats to your brother.

Tom, the rear fuel tank appears to be early 900A also. Kevin was looking for one of those ripple back sleepers if it helps. Wayne
By Doug Blevins - Monday, January 17, 2011 9:14 AM
Upon closer inspection, that sleeper is mounted backwards! At first I noticed the single door, and the handle was on the front, then I noticed the location of the vent, and I think I see the original crawl through opening on the rear, maybe (I hope) with a window glass installed! only are the front panels pleated also? will have to go look at mine and see whats going on! Maybe they just put the doors on backwards!......Doug

Tom, are you going to put the air ride cut off on the front of the trailer on it?
By Bill White - Monday, January 17, 2011 9:51 AM
Tom, That will look good when it is done, Gene was telling me about it.

If I remember the ad correctly, some of this stuff was to make room for an 8v92 under the hood.

Looks like a good project!
By Freight_train From Bama - Thursday, February 03, 2011 3:44 AM
Please put the 2nd axle back under that thing(its a twin screw. You can see the spring still there in the 1st picture..It just don't look right with a LOOOONG wheel base and single axle.I agree about those air cleaners. They might look better though without that barn door wind deflector in front of them.

I ask him about that and he said that it was not on backwards. Apparently the door is on backwards. He said the door on the other side was correct.

Take that goofy lookin' air cleaner off the cowl and mount it across ways above the flywheel housing as I did on my MH 90 Chevy with 8V71T . There's adequate room and the original duct work in the dual air inlets in the sides of the hood allow plenty of cold air to the engine .
By Dan Bruno - Thursday, February 03, 2011 11:09 AM
I've always loved those long nose GMC 9500's, but I have to say that this is the most unique looking one I have ever seen.  I love what they did with the air cleaners and sleeper.  I cannot recall ever seeing anything like it.  Sort of reminds me of Michelle's "long nose" N series in her avatar.  I always enjoy variations on the theme, especially variations that give you insight into what if.
By Road Boss - Saturday, February 05, 2011 12:36 PM
That looks great!  I can't wait to see more.
By TOM GEORGE - Sunday, February 06, 2011 5:58 AM
Made a little progress and got the air ride cut off on it. Picked up an engine donor - GMC General with an 892. As far as the air cleaners, i don't care for them but i got out ruled. I'll try to post pics as we progress.

Tom's building this for Aaron?
By MikeHarbison - Monday, February 07, 2011 1:50 PM
I want to know why you haven't mentioned the cuttoff came from a Mack?
By TOM GEORGE - Monday, February 07, 2011 2:54 PM
Mike, to the best of my knowledge the cut off came off of an Interstate lowboy. I have pictures to prove it. Besides we wouldn't put Mack parts on it that'd just make the truck heavier. As far as the color Michelle failed to tell you what color pink. I'll have to find my paint indentification chart.
By Dan Bruno - Tuesday, February 08, 2011 11:02 AM
Mike is right, those are definitely Mack crossmembers.
By Terry Tombaugh - Tuesday, February 08, 2011 12:03 PM
Sure looks Mack (Hendrickson for Mack) to me, the entire air ride looks like it is off of an early '00's CH613.
By newfie-trucker - Tuesday, February 08, 2011 12:52 PM
I dont know aboutt he cross members but the air ride is a hendrickson air ride like i had on my 94 Western Star
By tundra - Tuesday, February 08, 2011 8:34 PM
some of you may remember the story i told long ago bought the ...thought.. of usein a mack crossmember on onea my kenworths.....

....

...it turned out ta be only a ;;passing thought;;; of course though...lol

Bob said he bailed out on the bidding at about 4 thou. Since it was a year ago , I forget what the winning bid was .
By 359er - Monday, December 16, 2013 12:21 PM
What ever happened to Tom George and TJ? Never heard of either since the South Bend National show. TJs blue Crackerbox was parked right next to my Pete and PeterJs Mack.
