Haven't a clue on the truck, but that tree was a small load for the Belyea truck co.
Just got the lane dug out from yesterdays 28" snowfall. Just in time for another one on Wednesday. Ready for spring here!

I agree-looks like a Doane.
I wonder who the customer was- digging up full grown oak trees back then?
I believe that William Randolph Hearst had full grown trees moved while building the Hearst Castle in San Simeon, CA.
That would explain the L.A. based trucking co.

Doane looks good to me. What held up the launch,Jeff, another bat-ronaut? I stood out by the lake until about 4:50,then went back in,figured it was scrubbed.

| David, they scrubbed for weather, cloud cover over the runway. We will try again at 0414 am. Everyone had this one, with Dan Souday leading the way. This is a very unusual tandem axle Doane lowboy from the 1920's. Belyea was known for modifying and rebuilding their trucks, so the tandem may have been installed in their own shops. The caption to this photo reads: "A six ton Olive tree being removed from La Mirada to beautify a home in Beverly Hills. A.E Hansen Company is the landscaping contractor" Thanks much to Pat MacPhail for this photos below. I think that is the back of the Doane in the 2nd photo, as Belyea moved all the palms around LA's Union Station. Check out that kid on the bicycle, do you think he could get that close to the action today ??

according to the news, low cloud cover postponed the shuttle launch attempt until tomorrow A.M.
Will climb on the Doane wagon also. If this was the Hearst Castle/Ranch area, that would be my old stomping grounds (San Simeon Village), but of course..wayyyyyybefore my time

| Mike, Pat is right, those are Gruss air shocks, also built under the name of Cleveland air shocks. I think these were separate companies. These big front mounted shocks were seen on big trucks and buses from about 1925 to the early '30's. By the late '30's they were only used on the big military 6x6's, mostly the 7-1/2 tonners or larger. I don't think they were used on any trucks after the war. The photo below is a 1944 Federal 606 C-2 wrecker with Cleveland shocks.
