| I like to know the similarities and differences between the 2 engines, are parts interchangeable between the 2? The pros and cons as well as availability of parts for the A model 3406, thanks for the inputs.

The early 3406A's were pre-combustion style=glow plugs for starting. The later 3406A's were direct injection. PC fuel system parts are getting expensive and with the economy and emmisions I forsee them becoming obsolete which is too bad. For a working truck I would recommend a B-model. Not alot of parts interchange between the two, fuel systems are different, heads different, timing covers different, etc etc.

| The truck I looked at is a 400 HP 3406A and it does not have the glow plugs to it. It is in a 1985 model Western star. The motor is a reman from 1992 in it and so I am thinking it is direct injection.

The layer DI'd like the one you are looking at are very good engines. Performance will be equal to a B-model of the same rating.
