I say White too
Progress may have been all right once, but it has gone on too long.

White Road Bus. I think this one was used on the Damascus to Baghdad run.

White. If you look closely, you can see that the cab is basically a widened W-Series. The doors are the same as W's.

| good observation on the widened cab, Johnny Mack. Gives new meaning to "double wide." I've seen some literature that said this had a Hercules Diesel. Model? I would need to see factory pictures with some of White's model numbers. Maybe it's a 691, maybe a 942? Bruce

| This one didn't fool anyone, even though, at 1st glance, this is one of the more un-Whitely looking Whites I have seen. This is a 1937 model 691, custom built for the Nairn Brothers for running from Damascus to Baghdad. This truck was powered by a cummins diesel. The earlier Marmon-Herrington 6x6 coach was Hercules Diesel powered. Thanks to Tatra for the photo. The article below is by Don Chew and is from the July/August 1993 WOT. For more info on the White, click on the link below, then scroll about halfway down the page. http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/f/fitzgibbon_crisp/fitzgibbon_crisp.htm

| Mike Tamangel, thanks for the BBC link on the Landrover to Singapore video. It can't be skipped ahead but once it's running the slider can be moved back a little to repeat the segment around minute 16. Here's a couple photos from that video. The BBC reporters on the trip said they deliberately spent a few days in the Damascus workshop "watching these buses get built" (repaired) Sounds like there were a few buses, but what manufacturer? Theres a bulldog on one of these radiators. But the video shows just the White, including a driver getting in the cab and driving. Did somebody stick a bulldog on the White just to be funny? Bruce
