Hi, there. This is the first time I have taken advantage of the ATHS forum, so with any luck it will be lucritive. I have an early 50's GMC 426 six cyl. gas engine. The vehicle was parked (running supposedly) 15 years ago. I aquired the truck and intend to make a doodlebug out of it. Problem is the engine is stuck, so I removed the cylinder head after struggling to get it free, and found a mouse had made it's home on top of the open number six exhaust valve. The cylinder was clear full of whatever that mouse could get in there. Needless to say the top of the piston was significantly deteriorated and broke during removal. While removing the other five pistons, we found four burned through. So I am seeking a complete set of good used or new old stock pistons, rings, and rod bearings. The following is the information I retrieved from the engine and parts:

Block serial#: B42615798
Block casting #'s: Right side: 2191324
73M
1073
Left side: 2308958
Piston casting#: 4518
Rod casting #: 2051211
021
Bearing #'s: 6MM400
2305605
308A3

The number six cylinder wall has a small amount of pitting, I hope to hone out. The rest look good. The crank has some wear, but I think I can polish that out too. Any information will be greatly appreciated, as this is my first antique engine restoration.

Tom----------Probably easier to find the more common 503 in one piece . Most parts would be interchangable . One might be available soon in southern Ohio , as the owner has located a 6V53T from a city bus .

Thanks alot Dan. I was thinking last night about starting to look for the 503, which I would much rather have anyhow. If there is a way I can contact the owner of the 503 you speak of, please let me know.

Again thanks, Tom
