What is this Holset worth?

Will it work in place of the turbo on the 350 or is it worth the trouble?  350 may be blowing oil out the stack.

Thanks, Dean

Dean if that is a 350 or 400 engine that the holsit is on it may work but now you are going to get into a jake brake issue. I think you will be ok if the holsit is not a duel entry. You will have to pull off of the manifold and look at the exhaust entry of the turbin housing to see if it is single or duel entry. Your jake brke is not to be used with a duel entry. That is were you get a over boost and bend push tubes.

Thanks Glenn--I'll check it out.  Anybody have a guess as to a fair price for the turbo?

Dean,

Youve got a real good reman outfit just one state north of you, up in Baxter Springs, KS.  http://www.blaylock-turbo.com/   You should be able to swap youres in as a core on the exact same, or they can tear youres down, reman it, and probably have it back to you in a week or so.They do 24 hour emergencies, but you pay for the rush.John

Dean Thompson Diesel there should be able to put a kit in yours or exchange it. I have no bought one in maybe 7 years but check them. I am going to have them to build my mack pump soon.

I stopped and spoke with the folks at Thompson Diesel when I was in OKC. I left with the impression they know what they are doing.

Hi Dean, In regard to your Holset turbo, I replaced mine 2 or 3 months ago for $500.00 new price for a Borg Warner HT3B. My old one is a Holset and I kept it. There was no exchange. I bought it at Turbo Supply in Joplin MO.

Thanks guys for the info.  Been out working (fiddling) on the Acar and trailer since last Thurs.  Don't know, at this time, what I'll do about the turbo.

Took Diane's Acar to Mounds last Sat. to have the winch and bed installed.  Sure glad to hand this project off to Ed Chambers.  Maybe he can post some pictures of the progress.  If he builds near as good a job as he did on his Dart, it will be a winner.

I don't know if this would work or not... But what i would do is leave the turbine housing of the SC turbo on and add the holset compresser housing on. The housing looks smaller on the SC so it might spool up faster then the turbine housing on the holset.

Two different designs there. Not made the same way.
