John,I've heard about this in the past few months. This is the first time I've seen US Gov documentation to back this up. Thanks

What people investing in fuel don't realize, or maybe they do and don't care, is that the higher energy prices are, the longer it's going to take to get out from under this recession. Unreasonably high energy prices (among other things), helped to bring on the recession. When people had to spend so much money to fill their fuel tanks to get to work they didn't have money to spend on other goods (vehicles, clothes, appliances). When fuel prices dropped then they could buy items that they had put off buying. Our economy relies on people buying things to keep everyone working.

We have an analyst who monitors the oil markets in our office. For the last month it seems you couldn't get a break. If it looked like the economy might get better they bid oil up on hopes of higher consumption. If it looked like the economy might slow down a little more they bid oil up as a hedge against inflation. All the while oil reserves kept getting bigger and bigger. It appears those buying oil as an inflation hedge might be giving up. Oils dropped 11% in the last week. With a little luck it could drop another 20% in the next few weeks.

I would love to see diesel fuel at $2.00 a gallon. :) Up here in Alaska we're paying about $3.30 a gallon for diesel and around $2.80 for gasoline. And this is with no state fuel tax (the state congress suspended the state 8 percent fuel tax for one year). This is in Anchorage. The price goes up even more in the remote parts of the state. If we ever got back down to $2.00 a gallon up here I would be shocked.

No he didn't delete anything I think. I cut a paragraph out of my post to stop the thread from heading in that direction
