As an update to the trucks used in Utah, I seen the booster hauling rig the other day and it now has TWO of those new heavy haul tractor truck things on it now. I guess I'll have to keep my camera handy in case I get to see it again.

I know I can fit all 8 of them but there is room for more. I guess I will have to find some more Linn tractors so I can max out the trailer to capacity.

I've been hearing the locomotive reference a lot. I hope it pulls like one. I plan to put the truck to work after some reconditioning. It does not appear to need much and only has 8200 miles on the odometer. The trailer needs some modern upgrades and a few more axles to use on road but is fine to use for off road work until I get the upgrades done.

I recently went to Ogden Utah to retrieve the heavy hauler. I loaded the Kenworth on a low bed trailer and permitted for 11' 10" wide and 92,000# gross wt. With a light over the road tractor I could do that on 5 axles. To transport the trailer I made a hatbox adapter to go from my 2 1/2" fifth wheel to the 3 1/2" kingpin. I also needed to make up about 20" of height difference. I had to use one of my heavy haul tractors with 4 axles. I permitted for 99' long, 15'3" wide, and 171,000#. I made blocks and pins to hold the rear pivot from moving and welded the steering mechanism on the trailer so it could not move. This enabled the trailer to be hauled at highway speed. The trailer was not designed to move without a tillman steering the trailer and that would also limit the speed to about 25 mph. I had 3500 miles to go and was able to safely go 70 in the western states and 60 in the eastern states. The kenworth is already in Maine but the trailer is on the Ma / NY line. I had a permit glitch and with the holiday season messing with the schedule I delayed the last 2 days of the trip until after the holiday when it is easier to travel.

The pictures are full size on my computer and I did not reduce them. I will try again. There are 3 pictures of the Kenworth. I will also try to put some of the trailer.
