I've been looking for an old travel trailer to pull behind the Mack. All the old ones were over priced or junk, or both... I didn't want to end up with another winter project that takes 3yrs to use!

I found a new reproduction Serro Scotty... I hope to have it by laborday.... spending the big bucks..lol.

It's about 7' x 10' net. Just a little bigger the a sleeper with all the comforts of home.. bed, stove ,fridge, sink, and a pooper... what more do you need.. lol..  Air Conditioned too...

The deal fell apart on the replica scotty.. long story not worth repeating... salesmans lips were moving..

So  , I went back to looking. Found a 81 scotty highlander. A little bigger the the other one, but I think the Mack will pull it. lol

The outside is great, for an 81. Later I'll paint it to match the Mack. Inside OK ,but will need work to bring it up to date... Nice winter project..

I don't know how to change the title of this thread. Eddy, if you read this, could you change the title to read "Serro Scotty 81' "  Not a replica.

I thought i'd up date what's been going on ... if anyone cares..lol

I went and picked it up last wed. Lights worked, but no brakes. The privious owner had had the bearings packed and brakes checked, but they didn't work for me. The shop where I picked it up, checked it out .. One magnet was not working. Luckly he had one, and with a little modification, had both working in short order.

I went to pick this up with my PT cruiser as my dog (Mack) is sick. Quite a load for it, twice what its rated for. Trailer 2500lb empty. Car rated 1000lb.

I got it home OK, pulled real good. The litte 4 cyl was wound up a lot!

Then I had a job putting it in the driveway.. same spot the Mack had been in for the last 2 yrs.

Little short trailers are a b____ to back. I haven't backed anything shorter then 53' in 9years. Before that it was 48's...

It's home and blocked up... i'll up date the rebuild later..

Here is what we are starting with..

This trailer has not been used on the road much.It must have been sitting on a site. Sheet metal is almost perfect, for a 30yr old. It had some damage in the rear, that had been fixed.

This unit has had water leaks, and was resealed in the past. I'm going to redo this with Eternabond, as this was a long time ago, and is still leaking in the front .

The trim and edge aliminum was installed with drive rivits. A lot of them have been replaced with screws. I'm going to replace ALL of them.

Inside; Ceiling has been wet and repainted once,in the front ,its still wet and leaking. I already ripped out the front piece to see damage and to let this dry. The front wood, ceiling and panels, will need replacing right to the floor. The rest of the ceiling will be repainted or replaced as needed.

Utilitys; Almost none! Think of this as a tent with stiff walls.  Someone has started the upgrade.

Water; A new black holding tank and a new toilet have been installed. The sink has been hooked up to the tank. It used to just drain through the wall and you hooked a hose up, and ran it to the woods or to a portable tank.

Fresh water; It has a tank , about 10 -15 gal. Original, dated 1981. This used to have only a hand pump, at the sink. A new electric pump has been installed, and new line to the toilet. Don't know if it works or not... see elec..

Electric; very little; No battery,It has a converter. It doesn't  work. At this time the only thing made to operate on 12V , are 5 inside lights and the water pump.

Electric 110V; It only has a 15A input cord, and everything is run on 1 breaker. Everything is daisey chained from the breaker.. A wire is run to installe an airconditioner, not hooked up at either end.

Other; No airconditioner or fans, only 2 vents (nonpowered). Fridge..gone. Heater.. none. Hot water.. none. Stove.. gas, statis unknown. Gas bottle, old style. Regulator.. full of water, not gas.

As you can see , this is a major rebuild. Most of this is inside work , and can be done this winter.

Work has already started and I'll update (with pics) as I go. I'm trying to get the out side work done before the cold and snow hit here in NY.

later

Welcome

I thought i'd add some tease photos.. full story at 11.

Some of the old goo I need to scrape out to reseal

The old ceiling fan removed. To be replaced with a Fantastic Fan.

Here are some shots of the damage in the front. This was not like this,I pulled it down to see the damage, and let it dry. Also I can see if I sealed it up OK before doing the wood work..

I've been working on the roof, weather permitting. I gotten the seams cleaned, top trim removed and resealed and top pieces replaced. I redid all the roof seams Eternabond. I primed and got the first coat of paint on the roof.

I also redid the gas system. I had to buy a new tank and regulater. You can't get the old tanks refilled. The regulater, bubbled water and leaked, not good!. I installed a new main hose too.

Two out of 3 burners worked. The third one I took apart blew air through it, and reinstalled. After a brief flair up (excitement) it works too.

I bought a Wave 3 heater it install, as there is no heater in this trailer. Bought the heater, hoses, and fittings. I installed  it and it works good.I'm testing it tonight to see how well it will keep up in cold weather. I don't plan on camping in the winter, but you never know.

Pic and more later..

I left the camera in the trailer!!

I installed a new fantastic fan in the roof. I finished sealing the roof, and was painting it. I put my hand through the other vent, where I was going to install an airconditioner next year.

Moved things up.. bought a new small, lowprofile AC and installed it. I got the second coat of paint on the roof without causeing more damage..lol. Roof done, sealed ,and painted.....

I'm putting new marker lights on to replace the crappy RV lights that are on it now. I bought all new led lights, and started putting them on . I need to get themon and sealed before winter hits.

I've gotten the top rear 5 done, and the right side, top and bottom  done and sealed.

The aluminum trim that joins the sides to the roof and front and rear , togather, was held on with 'drive rivets'. They look like a revit on the outside, but are just a nail with some grouves, like a rifle barrel, lenthwise with a slow twist. Many were loose. I had put screws in the roof joint when I put the new aliminum edge up there. I change all the rest, front to rear, both sides. I pryed them out, countersunk the hole and put in real screws. There must have been hundreds!!! I only did 3 or 4 at a time ,so the trailer didn't fall apart.

I haven't done too much on the inside, but I did install a new truckfridge.

I also painted the back splash, and countertop, around the sink and stove. Used hammered gray for the backsplash, and "stainless steel" epoxie paint for the counter top.

Update and pic later.Waiting to post pictures, till the broard settles down... I don't want them to disapear into the black hole!

We had a few days of dry warm weather. I"ve been working, like crazy to get the out side paint finished.

All the major painting is DONE! I have one bad spot to fix and  stripes to paint. I'll get some pics in the am.

The rest of the outside work,I can do if its warm enough for me,don't have tto worry about drying or rain.
