Can  anyone assist me in identifying an older Freuhauf trailer. Van body type but NOT refrigerated
(we purchased the trailer because it was sitting on a piece of property we wanted to purchase and the current owner did not want to move it)

We were told this would be a great trailer to restore since body is in great shape.

Plate on front of trailer is all the info I could find as far as model etc...

Model   FFGT 5532
Serial    AV155460
lb       450000

We believe it's a mid 40's from pic I've found online...Has rounded front with Fruehauf logo and band around the top
Still on axle with spare tire; body in great shape with medal freuhauf molding on the front

I was able to get some Pic this weekend.....attached.

RB,

Your trailer was built in Ft. Wayne, Indiana in 1952. The range of

serial numbers that year started at FW72801 and ended with

FW86600.

On the model number SS usually means stainless steel, the next

number refers to the suspension, (GT55 is torsion bar)and

the last number is the length.

My trailer for instance is: PMGT55-31.5, FW57866

PM=Flatbed, GT55=Torsion bar suspension, 31.5=The length,

FW=Built in Fort Wayne, Indiana, 57866=sequential serial built in

1950.

I hope that helps.

I'm trying to track down the age of an old Fruehauf stainless steel van.  Model SS530; Serial FW73658.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is what info I came with- s/n FW99775 was built in 1955 at the Ft. Wayne plant. Production began with FW97829 and ended the year at FW105113. First year of production at Ft. Wayne was '44 and final year was '87.

The only thing making Trailmobiles look cheap is the fact that they are. They are junk for new trailers.

Rick

I agree compared to the older Fruehauf's on the yard Fruehauf's hide their age very well.

Larry,

That's correct. They did a very nice job.

Rick

Compared to the Trailmobiles that Gully runs, that new Fruehauf makes the Trailmobile look cheap.

Dan,

I have serial number data sheets for the older Fruehauf trailers.

The info even list the month, factory/city it was built in.

If you get a minute PM me the VIN number and I'll get you what you

need.

Rick Knox (4/25/2010)

We've had Road Systems rebuild one for us (Gully/ICX). But it was an 88 model and went to them with the VIN tag on it. They rebuild any brand.

Rick, isn't that the first rebuilt prototype that Gully/ICX sent down to Road Systems?
