I held off saying anything because the last time I was over that route was 40 years ago, grades exceeding 13% at that time, and I was in an old Volvo 142 that was down in 2nd gear going up and down. A real work out. No idea if it has changed, and a 40 year old reply doesn't help much, but it doesn't sound like it has changed much.

Fred: Thanks for the input. will keep it in mind before a final decision is made. A little over a year ago I drove from Harrisonburg to Cass W. Va by a different rout and it was as you described. Was hoping Rt 33 was a little better.

Hello Denny. I have not traveled on 33 there for many years but from what I remember it is not a fun drive even in a car. It is steep and winding. I would evaluate another route. I am hoping someone else will give their opinion.

Ahhh, there's nothing like the smell of diesel fumes in the morning.

Started some long range thinking to attend the Harrisonburg show. Planning on traveling down from Ohio. Looks like I-77 to W Va 50 to I-79 to 48/33. All interstate and 4 lane to Elkins W Va. From there to Harrisonburg Rt 33 is two lane the last 100 or so miles. Is this a decent 55 MPH road? Don't mind a bit of two lane and some scenery climbing over the Alleghanies to break the monotony of the superslab. . Anybody familiar with this route?
