Thanks
I thought the ammeter was going negative but I had just charged the battery and didn't see much needle movement.I know all my 50's fords were positive grounds.

Rich, I sent you an email about the parts. As far as changing polarity, I hear you cannot just change wires and your meters will work except maybe the ammeter. I do not know what is required as far meter internal wiring is concerned.

Gotta remember the regulator if contemplating a polarity change .

Just to finish up on the pos/neg ground business. When I got the truck the neg on the bat was connected to the frame.no lights worked and the ammeter went neg when the engine was revved up.I reversed the polarity and now I have lights(well most of them,1 high beam ,1 low beam etc)and the ammeter reads neg when it should. Thanks everyone for your help.
Moral of the story.A 1954 White Superpower WC-22PLT has a positve ground system and the positive terminal on the battery must be connected to the frame.
