I love your truck stop history page.
But unfortunately this is to let you know that another truck stop icon Dixie truck stop became a Road Ranger/Pilot this past week.
I hang my head in silence and shed a tear for the real truck stops that are now travel plazas and the mom & pop places that are now just ghosts & memories.

I my self have only been out on these roads 3 years, but the cb is mounted nicely and I crave these historic icons of the industry, when drivers were true drivers. My husband who has put rubber on the road for 13 yrs. now hangs his head at these true losses of trucking and we both wish we had done this earlier in life

If only there was a way to bring these places back.

Mc Lean ILL is the original and the last to go. I-55 @ us 136 mm 145 I think. They branched out at one time and had one in Effingham and another in Tuscola ILL. The one in Mc Lean had a superb restaurant and was home to the 66 hall of fame and had pictures of truckers and trucks back to the early 50's and maybe farther. But it is gone as the Haslett's sign their name to the real estate and the consortium of the big carriers put the fuel in the tanks and it becomes a fuel depot for the big carriers. Wayne
