Hi folks, anyone know the ball park cost to convert a 9 speed into the 13. I know it involves a kit that has the back part of the tranny and the shifter and related parts.

Thanks in advance!

When I bought a kit over 10 years ago it was around $1500. easy to do.

In my neighborhood on Craigslist I see 14613's for sale pretty regularly for $1000 plus or minus a couple hundred pretty consistently.  Some of the conversion kits they used to list aren't available anymore when I was considering this about 3 years on a dying 12513.  I would definitely shop around and you might be able to swap an entire transmission with some life left in it for less then the parts to do the swap.  Rebuilders sometimes will sell back boxes and may be of help as a further option.  Which version of 9 speed do you have?  I don't know all the specifics but some back boxes may or may not match up with all versions of 9 speed.  There is certainly a way to get what you want and quite a few options on how to get there.

Is it true all 9 speeds that have been coverted to 13sp are noisy in top side?

No the one that use the factory kit are the same internally as the OEM 13 speeds. I think you are thinking about the differance between the course gear trans vs the later fine gear trans. either that or the "single OD vs the double which were more noisey.

You can buy a good used 13 speed on Ebay for about $3,500 and they will tack on a core charge of about $2,200, it will take about 45 - 60 days to ship back the transmission pulled out and refund the core charge. But the shipping cost alone will cost you a bunch more, I purchased a used 13 speed with a 90 day warranty back in 2005 for $5,000 locally and took the old transmission with me to save on paying the core charge.
