morning all.

Im looking at a 1973 Fruehauf cattle liner that has CLN at the start of the serial # does anyone know what plant that was from ?, Ive contacted Ruth Anne and she does no know either if anyone has any info would be helpful, All its tags are missing or rotted from the rivets so this is all on the registration papers, unless they stamped numbers on the trailers elsewhere, im thinking of fixin up the old gal, also does anyone repop the data plates ?

Thanks Terry

I figured I would bump this up with a question rather than start yet another VIN thread.

I just purchased a drop deck Fruehauf van registered as a 1946 over in Montana. Hope to bring her home next weekend. I'd like to find out a little more about it if possible.

SN# KC39244

Model# AFW 127 DF

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Epr: Thanks for the information. I hope Budd returns to add a reply. I checked and there is an H in one of the ser. numbers. In the records I have they were SS6F235FWH850601 and SSV6F235FW864901. They could have been written down wrong, that's why two identical trailers would have such different numbers.

Budd,

Your trailer is a 1966 model and it was built in Ft.Wayne, Indiana. The

range of serial numbers from 1966 are: FWG496902 through FWG762504.

Mike,

I think Dave has info on the Avon Lake built Fruehaufs, his email is:
d.clerici@att.net

FW850607 and FW864902 are 1967 Ft. Wayne built trailers, the range for

1967 are: FWH562801 through FWJ948401, I don't know why there is no "H or

J" in your numbers, but Ft. Wayne built non the less.

Bruce,

I don't have any info on the Fruhauf fifth wheels but let me know if you find

out anything, I've always been interested in more info on them.

For the Fruehauf historians, it looks like the Ft. Wayne plant closed in 1987

with no trailers being produced there in 1988 or later.

Does anyone know about Fruehauf fifth wheel numbers? George Shroyer showed me where the date of manufacture was stamped at the front of the plate. Mine was from 1943. I've seen a date stamped on some old ones but no stamp on many. Was the date consistently stamped, or under certain circumstances or during a certain era?

Bruce

A few years ago I found one of the 36 footers. The front was sitting on pallets, there was only one barely attached axle. They had air powered landing gear when new.

It was nice visiting with you, your wife, and your four legged friend in Greenwich N.Y. I mentioned the company I worked for had two identical 1967 36' SS Fruehauf reefers. The ser. numbers were FW850601, and FW864901. They had a handful of other Fruehaufs. I don't see anything in the vin or ser. numbers that would indicate a year of manufacture. A few years ago I found one of their old trailers, here are the tags:

Im looking for a Freuhauf vin # its within a group of 3 (maybe more)?? 40 ft SS van trailers that I know of, I have one of them now. Possibly sold new in the Northbridge/Sutton/possibly Boston?? Mass area. Some things are making me question that the one I have is a 1966. I guess the best way is to verify by vin number:

FWG668802.
I know the FW stands for Fort Wayne built. The other 2 from this group of 3 are in this nice shape too. I bought this trailer in 2009, it was used only until 1973. I took off the original license plate with 1973 registration on it, had "66" for the 1st 2 numbers on the plate, we just called it that and registered it as a 1966. Any info is good, THANKS!
