I worked for Bowman (Parts Dept/Truck Shop) at their Atlanta Terminal (Conley, GA), in the early 80's. The Terminal is still there, on Bowman Industrial Ct., but is now owned by Old Dominion. (look at Bing or Google maps "aerial view" for reference) Working in their shop, I know that all their (green) trucks were old Whites and almost as old, Freightliners. At the time their's was the longest dock in Georgia. Right at a quarter mile long.

My family , is tied to BOWMAN TRANSPORTATION .J.N.MARTIN was my grandfather and he was also raised by the owner of Bowman's Mother which was his Aunt. Ralph and my grandfather were raised as brothers, his mother and Ralph's mother were sisters, my granddaddy's Mother died when he was an infant. the Bowman trucks started out
green in color. J.N. also owned trucks that he ran through Bowman Transportation. My Daddy Bobby Ray Martin drove for BOWMAN TRANSPORTATION AND He was killed 1969 in Charlotte .N.C. IN A BOWMAN TRUCK

I was driving for Bowman - Gadsden/Atlanta when they closed April 1, 1990. have seen several of their old trucks running. last one I remember seeing was about 3 months ago. New decals and name, old paint.

Today I just read Bubba Smith's obit.  Hard to believe he's gone.  I'm not old enough to remember him in the NFL, but I sure remember Police Academy very well!  RIP, Bubba.

I can't think of Bowman without thinking about one of their drivers named Lamon.  A 7 foot tall black man without an ounce of fat on him, (reminded my of football player Bubba Smith who played Moses Hightower on Police Academy), smoked big cigars and ran from Shreveport to Dallas and back every night for Bowman.  Then he worked 7 to 3 driving dump trucks during the day.  Excellent driver, great guy and a hard worker.  I don't guess the guy ever slept.

All I need is one more good deal and I'll be out of business.

I'll stick with the old and they can stick the new.
