Here's a very early tanker train. Emblem removed. Photo from Edgar Browning.

Note that the trailers are set up to be pulled by horses or this tractor.  Easy to see the transition from animal power to mechanical power.

Sure wish we had some of those flat hats for the WAI crowd.

Everyone has this one, this is a Knox-Martin 3 wheeled tractor of about 1913-14. Harry Knox started building trucks in 1901 and built several different 3 wheeled vehicles over the years, along with 4 wheel models too. The most successful of the 3 wheelers were the Knox-Martin tractors using Charles Martin's patented Martin Rocking Fifth Wheel, the forerunner of modern 5th wheels.  Martin formed his Martin Tractor Company just 200 yards from the Knox factory in 1913; all these vehicles were sold as Knox-Martin. The last 3 wheeled tractor was built in 1915; Knox went out of business in 1924. Brian Kelly had this 1st. Thanks to Edgar Browning for the WAI photo, Bill White for the Knox on skis, and the last pic is from the Minnesota Historical Society.
