I think the idle air is a great idea but I have some reservations with it. Its nothing to do with its service or what it does for drivers. Sadly my issues I have are the people that may be using them. We all know the type, dirty trucker that likes to write on,destroy property or cause other people to suffer at your expence. I see the way some of these slobs treat themselves and can only wonder how they would treat a box that was intended to push clean fresh air into your cab. It may just be me but I picture some crack head junkie stuffing junk into the air vents just to kill some time. I guess what im saying is that some of the truck stops that I found Idle air units installed were below my standards. this is what bothered me. I questioned the maintance of the units at a run down truck stop. I admit it, I judge everything and everyone by its cover.  That wont change, but I always give things a try after I get to know a little more about them.

The truck parking issue was a problem. Some places policed the idle air locations to keep trucks not using the units from parking in that location. Other places did not care. you would see 2 trucks using the system and then15 trucks all parked with the engines running. If I paid for a service I expect it to be what it is. I would not want to listen to trucks running around me.  Many if times I pulled into a truck stop and there was no parking but the whole center island was idle air and empty.

But besides all of that what erks me the most is states that have idle restrictions, I was out in NY last year and it was so hot in the cab I had to turn the truck on to get some AC going. Cop knocked on the door and said shut it off. after 5 mins of talking with him he said to just park  where they cant see the tractor. I was kinda pissed that they woke me at 4am but glad I was not ticketed. Seams this country just trys to make everything harder for working people. Everyone with a little power, no matter how much just wants to push it around before thinking about what they are about to do.

Doug, Tony and Glenn -- thanks everyone for your feedback!

Doug -- you're 100% right.  The old IdleAir locations took up a lot of spaces.  The current IdleAir locations have given back about half the spaces to the truck stop.  That means more spaces available to those folks who aren't using IdleAir, and it means fewer drivers taking up IdleAir spaces for IdleAir customers.

Tony -- glad to hear you used IdleAir lots last summer! There are currently 21 locations open nation-wide: www.idleair.com/locations.asp.  If you've got a balance on your old IdleAire card, your balance will be honored.  Just call customer service at (877) 738-7024 to get started.

Glenn -- We hear what you're saying.  Starting this Spring, IdleAir will be offering "a la carte" options for all our services.  So if you're going to sleep right away and all you need is the AC, then that's all you have to pay for.  And it'll be less than the $1.99 bundle of all the services.  So starting soon, you can pay for just what you want to use.  And of course, if you can't sleep and you want to watch 60 channels of Satellite TV, you can always add that in.

I used it alot and thought it was a good deal but there was some places that was full of parked trucks in there that was not connected to the services and to me the other services was useless to me other thn the a/c and heater. I was always laying down and sleeping as soon as i got there. The way dry box operation run you dont have the time but to sleep.

One of the main complaints I had with Idle Air, was that in order to put in the infrastructure to support it the number of parking spaces were greatly reduced. In most locations parking was already almost nonexistent, and with the IdleAir system they don't want you to park there unless you are going to use it. I know its good for the environment, but makes it all that much harder to find a place to park at night when it was already a nightmare!!!.........Doug   PS If they could figure out how to squeeze a shower through the tube, more drivers would use it!!!

IdleAir offers long-haul truck drivers an alternative to idling their engines and APU's during rest periods.  IdleAir reopened in Spring 2010 under new management, and currently operates 21 sites nationwide (see www.idleair.com/locations.asp).  IdleAir basic service is $1.99/hour and includes powerful HVAC, standard AC electric inside and outside the cab, 60+ channels of Satellite TV (including Fox News and The Weather Channel), and basic internet.  Customers who had money on old IdleAire cards still have their balances available, even if they tossed the card.  Just call IdleAir Customer Support at (877) 738-7024 to get set up.

Idling uses 1 gallon of diesel per hour, and with diesel costing over $3.30/gallon, drivers can use IdleAir and save $1.30/hr -- while
they're sleeping!  There are 9 IdleAir sites that have a special $1.25/hr rate through 3/30/11, and registered fleets get a special
discounted rate of $1.50/hr at ALL locations through 4/30/11.

For Drivers:

IdleAir gives you a powerful heating and cooling air system, just like at home.  Now you can shut off your engine and sleep better without the noise, vibration, and stack gases from idling.

IdleAir gives you standard AC electric service both inside and outside your cab.  You can plug in block heaters, phone and laptop chargers, and any other accessories.

IdleAir gives you satellite TV and free basic internet.  Stay connected with friends and family, and enjoy your favorite sports,
news, and Weather Channel programs.

Buy American: Engine Off, IdleAir On.  IdleAir is good for America. The energy that IdleAir uses comes from American resources, like coal, gas, wind, and more.  You can help Buy American with IdleAir, and avoid idling engines and APU's that burn foreign oil.

Got questions?  Call IdleAir Customer Support at (877) 738-7024

My wife and I drive for V F Jeanswear ( Formerly Wrangler) and we have combination Bunk rooms and showers in all our Dist Ctrs as well as showers at all 4 of our terminals. The single drivers still use the bunks some in severe weather.

Seems that Rigmaster is the leading source for truck generators.  What time does "Truck stops" come on?  I have the Windows Media Center which allows me to watch cable on my PC!

It is not a regularly scheduled series. I just happened to catch it.

Ahhh, there's nothing like the smell of diesel fumes in the morning.

You look thru the old Overdrive's from the late 60's and the 70's and see the ads for the Jimco on 99 in Ripon and they mention "roomettes". It's still there and so are they.

If it doesn''t come with two sticks, how can it be a truck!
