Here's an old railroader from Ed Chambers. Emblem removed.

Several interesting answers here but only Brian Kelly is right. This truck was indeed built in Kansas City by Sterling Custom Built Trucks. This is not the classic Sterling from Milwaukee that has been featured in the WAI several times, or the newer company owned by Freightliner we still see on the roads today (although no longer built). The Kansas City company was completely separate and not related to either. Sterling Custom Built Trucks were built from 1973 to 1982 in Kansas. They built a few custom crane carriers, prime movers, railroad service trucks (like our feature truck), and trailers. Ed Chambers sent the red truck in a photo taken in 1976; Brian Kelly sent the 2nd photo below which is the same truck (K503) several years later with a different paint job. Last photo is a data plate from a different Sterling truck. Although not related, it is obvious the logo is modeled after the original Milwaukee models.
