Here's a parade of early military trucks. Photo from Brian Kelly.

Fred Crismon is pointing me at the Federal Q9 as well, the set-forward front axle being the real identifier

Eventually, it's unanimous. This is without a doubt the 1934-35 Federal Q-9 2-1/2 ton 4x4 built for the U.S. Army. This is one of the more stylish all wheel drive trucks to see military service. Below we have a shot from the Life Magazine Collection, and the entry from Fred Crismon's "U.S. Military Wheeled Vehicles" with all the pertinent info. Don had this 1st; thanks to Brian Kelly for the photo. Interestingly, both Brian's photo and the Life photo were taken in 1939.
