Peterbilt #64858 was built on january 23rd 1974 in Newark, California. It was then shipped to Gallagher truck center in Newbergh, New York where it was sold to Package Pavement in Stormville New York and placed in service on june 4th 1974. She was Outfitted with a wet kit and half fenders and put to work most likely hauling rock and gravel with an end dump. Package Pavement is not a paving company, they manufacture asphalt in a bag for patchwork and Quickcrete.
I am unsure when she was sold to her second owner. He owned a private quarry in the lake George region of New York and only operated the truck in the quarry and never registered it for on road use. Tradgically he was killed on a loader when a wall caved in on him. (Only going by what I was told by the previose owner).
Sometime in 1989-90 The third owner bought the truck from the widow of the second owner and brought it to northern Vermont where it remains today. The truck had a little over a hundred thousand on it when he bought it. He replaced the tatered fenders with new ones from Peterbilt and had his son spray the truck in its current color. He used the truck to haul a loader, excavator and dozer on a low boy. He also hauled gravel with an end dump trailer. He had to have a camshaft replaced in the 12v71 due to two rounded off exaust valve lobes.
The truck survived two wrecks while he owned it. In 1995 a driver was hauling an excavator on the lowboy to a job site and got hung up on the railroad tracks. After trying to free it with no luck he decided to uncouple the gooseneck. Just then an Amtrack train came along at about 50+ miles per hour. The driver jumped in the tractor and pulled it ahead just barely getting missed as the train slamed into the trailer and excavator taking them down the tracks. The second accident the owner was dumping a load of stone and had the trailer topple over.
The truck was used by him up untill december of 1999 and was parked in the spring of 2000 with 312,591 miles on it. It sat in the barn ever since and will remain there through the winter until I bring her home this spring.

Just curious how you found out this information. Through Peterbilt? Via a dealer or did you write to the factory? I have a 69 KW that I'd like to do the same thing with. Thanks. By the way, the Pete looks great; I think you found a diamond in the rough! Good luck and have fun.
Been there...done that!

John,
I called my local Peterbilt dealer and gave the parts guy my vin# and asked him for a copy of the build sheet or bill of material. He gladly faxed the final chasis bill of material to me no charge! That had all my driveline specs and the build date and destination. My truck also has a sticker in the glove box that states The dealer name ,address, buyers name, address and date put into service. You should be able to call any Kenworh dealer and get the info you need. Good luck!

Fred, I like it too. My brother had a 77 or 78 359 with same set-up on luber-finer and p/s reservoir. Dont remember how common it was cause so many were ordered with 2 air cleaners. Wayne
