Yup, Clydesdale, about 1920. During Prohibition, so they are soft drink bottles. Unless there's another one, Bowie Race track is about 35 miles south of me.

The Bowie Race Track was a horse racing track located in Bowie, MD. Opened October 1, 1914 by the Southern Maryland Agricultural Society, the racetrack was a major attraction in the area, serving the now defunct WB&A Railroad that drew passengers from New York, Philadelphia and points along the way.

Piels Beer is a regional lager beer, originally brewed in Brooklyn, New York. The brewery was founded in 1883 by the Piel brothers: Gottfried, Michael and Wilhelm Piel. The soft water from Long Island was preferred by German brewers and Breweries in Brooklyn proliferated at this time. Piels’ union employees are reputed to have been guaranteed ice cold beer on tap 24 hours a day in their union contract.

Everyone is right, with Jack Amaral leading the way. This truck is a Clydesdale, and is said to be a 1920 model. However, if this photo was taken before January 16 1920, when Prohibition started, that could very well be real beer.  Clydesdale trucks were built in Clyde, Ohio from 1916 to 1938. Thanks to Dan Souday for the WAI photo.
